The Prismriver Ensemble—a popular musical group made up of all poltergeists—has announced its break-up. Not even fans could hide their surprise at this sudden report.

The biggest surprise is the reason for their break-up: because of "creative differences".[2] Who could have predicted that the three sisters would be heading towards a break-up after all this time? There are all sorts of unofficial-yet-plausible rumors floating around, such as that the Saigyouji family is going to employ them, or that the fickle Lyrica wants to go solo, or even that they're being pressured by the Hakurei Shrine.

A petition has been started in the Human Village by fans who wish for them to at least perform one last time at this year's flower viewing, but it is unclear whether or not this could stop the band's disbandment.

Lang
Shocking! From break-up to reunion in just three days!
The Prismriver Ensemble 2.0

Another sudden announcement from the Prismriver Ensemble, whose sudden press conference saddened the world. This time for their reunion concert! The audience experienced both delight and confusion by this complete about-face of a surprise present.

But that wasn't the end of the surprise. The reformation of the ensemble came along with adding a new member to the group: the fourth member, Raiko Horikawa. She is the tsukumogami of a taiko drum, so you could say she herself is her instrument. Moreover, she was able to power up during the Reversal Incident, so she is a far cry from being just your average tsukumogami. Her performance is certainly powerful and doesn't fall behind the three sisters one bit. In fact, there are hints that the drums may even end up being the main instrument of the ensemble.

The leading player in the reformation of the Prismriver Ensemble confesses
Becoming the Horismriver Ensemble while as a group of four

Lang

The break-up was something that no one had even imagined, but the reunion was just as shocking. Now, here's a direct interview with the woman at the heart of it all, Raiko Horikawa!

Aya

This is the "Bunbunharu". Congratulations on your performance the other day.

Raiko

Huh? So this isn't for your usual paper then?

Aya

This time, I've come to get your story for the first edition of a fresh new magazine to deliver fresh new facts to the masses. Now, Ms. Horikawa, since you have certainly livened up Gensokyo, please let us hear your thoughts.

Raiko

If it's about the music scene, then leave it to me.

Aya

Your performance the other day had you playing in the center of the stage, correct? Even though you're on drums.

Raiko

There's nothing that says that the drums can't be up front.

Aya

Ah, excuse me. But it's not something you see often, is it? We usually picture bands with the drummer in the back.

Raiko

It's because I'm the leader when we're performing as a group of four. I'm thinking about changing the team name too, taking "Horikawa" to make it the Horismriver Ensemble.[3]

Aya

H-Horism... I'm so jealous of people with good taste. But in the end, why did the Prismriver Ensemble break up for even that brief moment? If you were going to reform again right away anyway, you wouldn't have needed to go out of your way to hold a press conference for the break-up.

Raiko

Talking about "creative differences" and the like is a fairly common excuse, after all. Everyone's opinions were just too strongly held, and what was keeping them together just faded away. But I immediately understood what the Prismrivers were lacking.

Aya

And what was that?

Raiko

Percussion! Up until now, they haven't had any percussion, right?

Aya

Ah, indeed.

Raiko

So basically, I was able to cover for what they were missing. At first, everyone was only half-convinced, but after we held a trial session, we immediately hit it off.

Aya

So what you're saying is that, immediately after their break-up, you thought you'd be able to fill in the hole that the Prismrivers had and took action to do so? That's impressively proactive of you.

Raiko

Ah, no, it's not like that. You see, I've had my eye on them since way before that.

Aya

Is that so?

Raiko

I wanted some people that I could play together with, so I'd been in negotiations with the Prismrivers for a while now.

Aya

For a while now...? Um, something's not right. When you consider the timing of the first press conference, you had to have...

Raiko

Basically, it was only after we decided to be a band of four that we held the first press conference. With that, we'd be able to make waves in the news twice, with the news of our break-up and the news of our reformation.

Aya

What did you say!?

Raiko

Sorry, but we made good use of you, Ms. Journalist. Thanks to you, we had a blast at the concert.

Aya

This tsukumogami is unbelievable... Well, thank you very much for today.

  2. The most typical explanation for breaking up bands. In most cases it's a superficial lie to veil the fact that they are ultimately in trouble about distribution of payment or scramble of lovers between members.
  3. "Horismriver" is a portmanteau of "Horikawa" and "Prismriver". However, the "kawa" in "Horikawa" means river, so "Horismriver" is also a pun on the name "Horikawa". In Japanese, only a single mora is replaced to change Prism (プリズム pu-ri-zu-mu) to Horism (ホリズム ho-ri-zu-mu).
